La commande 'Yum' permet de nombreuses actions sur les produits Linux.

Les 2 utilisations les plus connues sont :

- L'installation de produits supplémentaires

- La mise à jour des produits déjà installé.

Pour l'installation d'un produit, il suffit de lancer la commande :

# yum install nom_produit

Le programme vérifie alors les prérequis et se connecte sur Internet pour télécharger puis installer le produit demandé.

De même, la commande suivants permet de faire une mise à jour de tous les produits installés :

# yum update
